TGG Blog Introduction

Welcome to The Grassroots Gateway coaches blog, where you might be surprised to find a bit of a different take on the traditional blog. We’ll still be writing coaching related posts and aren’t re-inventing the wheel but what we are hoping to do is provide grassroots coaches with a different kind of coaching related reading resource to the norm. Our aim with this blog is for it to be a source of learning and provide insightful and meaningful articles which our coaches can come away from having learnt something.

So, have you ever sat down and thought, how can I be a better coach? Of course you have, otherwise you wouldn’t be here. But have you ever sat down and thought, I wonder what studies out there could teach me how to be a better coach? Maybe you have but my guess is the majority of coaches out there haven’t.

Well here at TGG, we want part of our blog to look at coaching from a slightly different viewpoint - that of the academic. Now I know what you are thinking, and yes I wouldn’t be surprised if you stopped reading now but having written a dissertation on coaching practice I came across some interesting journal articles which delved into themes and topics I had never known existed and thus expanded my coaching knowledge far beyond the pitch.

So, as a starting point for our blog I figured, what better way than to go and share these with the world. Our “Guided By The Facts” tagged posts will be a running thread with the aim of taking proven academic research within the coaching world and discuss their findings into a a more condensed and simpler version of the usual 50+ page articles you find on academic websites. Furthermore we hope these will provide our coaches with some alternate ideas and enable them to think more critically about their coaching.

Sometimes these articles may be a bit longer than your usual article, but that’s just because we want to get across as much valuable information as possible! As always your feedback is welcome so do let us know your thoughts, and once we have the beta web app up and running you’ll be able to access all these articles and share your thoughts with your fellow grassroots community so do stay tuned and sign up to the beta below. Also follow us on instagram to ensure you are kept up to date with the latest post! For now I’ll leave you with a little excerpt from the 1st instalment of our guided by the facts post which will centre around the 7 quality coaching behaviours great coaches exhibit:

"Great coaches provide their athletes with a vision of what they are capable of doing and becoming"
